Restaurants, Beaches, Activities

  • Comfortable flip-flops or sandals: Many streets—especially in La Punta—are dirt and sand. Avoid delicate shoes.
  • Light and beachwear clothing: Swimsuits, shorts, breezy dresses, cotton t-shirts, and pareos. Life here moves to the rhythm of the sun.
  • Sunglasses + hat or cap: The sun hits hard from early on.
  • Biodegradable sunscreen: Protect your skin and care for the ocean.
  • Light towel or large pareo: Ideal for the beach, picnics, or as a light blanket.
  • Insect repellent: Essential, especially in the evenings.
  • Crossbody bag or small backpack: To carry your essentials during the day.

Although taxis are available throughout the city, they can be somewhat expensive, especially if you travel between areas like Adoquín, Zicatela, and La Punta or if you travel at night. They don’t always have a meter, so the price depends on the route and the driver.

Recommendation:

To save on transportation and make your trips easier, choose accommodation near the tourist area you plan to enjoy the most (for example, La Punta if you’re looking for beach and nightlife, or Adoquín if you prefer a more family-friendly and peaceful atmosphere). This will allow you to get around on foot, by bike, or scooter, avoiding unnecessary transportation costs.

  • Scooter or moped: The most free and practical way to get around. Daily rental ranges from $150 to $300 MXN, depending on the model. Ideal for hopping from beach to beach or moving between neighborhoods like Zicatela, La Punta, and Adoquín.
  • Shared taxis or suburban vans: Affordable, but without fixed schedules. Ask locals which one to take depending on your destination.
  • Local combis (federal highway): An economical option for trips between more distant areas. They charge $12 MXN and are boarded on the highway. They are fast and frequent.
  • On foot: In areas like La Punta or Adoquín, everything is close by. Just be prepared for the heat, dust, and uneven terrain.
  • Beware of the open sea: At beaches like Zicatela or Punta Colorada, the waves are strong. If there is a red flag, do not enter the water.
  • The best beach for swimming: Carrizalillo. Small, calm, and with gentle waves. Ideal for families, beginners, or those who just want to float.
  • Carry cash: Many places don’t accept cards, especially in La Punta or local markets.

  • Respect the local pace: Here, everything flows calmly. Greet, smile, and live without hurry.

  • Support local: From artisanal mezcal to street tacos, everything tastes better when it’s authentic.
